The Enduring Legacy of PERCEPTION

The eldest matron in residence at Alabama was peacefully laid to rest this morning after thirty-one glorious years of life. Although she was the last remaining member of LM MAGICS GIFT Family still at Mulawa, her impact on the breed both in Australia and around the world continues to unfold positively and profoundly.
With the closest genetic links to Mulawa’s celebrated foundation sires and dams, PERCEPTION was the product of breed pillars and essential imports VISION (Jamil x Euni by Bandos) and LM MAGICS GIFT (Aladdinn x JF Gazella by Gay Orzel), the former from Hans Nagel’s Katarinenhof in Germany, and the latter from the Lacroix Family’s Lasma Stud in the USA. Shown successfully in her youth to East Coast Champion Yearling Filly and Australian National Reserve Champion Mare, PERCEPTION’s greatest gift to the breed proved to be as a broodmatron of exceptional daughters and versatilely athletic sons. With foals by Mulawa chief sires GLF APOLLO and FAME MAKER R, PERCEPTION proved to be one of the most reliable nicks with the late PARKVIEW AUDACIOUS (TS Al Malik x Aliha Bint Nizr by Anaza El Nizr).
The most successful of her AUDACIOUS progeny in the show ring is multi-Australian National Champion MULAWA VIVACIOUS (2005), still beloved as one of the most highly decorated Arabian saddle geldings in Australian Arabian history. His elder full sisters, MULAWA ALEXA (2002) and MULAWA ANASTAZIA (2004), both Australian National Reserve Champions and Mulawa Dams of Distinction, continue to be the vital link through which the many gifts of PERCEPTION continue to positively influence the breed the world over. ALEXA’s most celebrated descendant is none other than Scottsdale Gold Champion, Canadian National Champion & United States Reserve National Champion IMPRESSA MI (by Aria Impresario). Proudly owned and adored by Joanne and Ram Gunabalan of JR’s Dream Arabians in the United States, IMPRESSA has proven to be a stellar producer in her own right, with several champion produce to her credit, including the sensational JR BELLA SORPRESSA (by Exxalt), the reigning Arabian Breeders World Cup Silver Supreme Champion and Scottsdale International Bronze Champion Yearling Filly.
As can only happen in breeding programmes with decades of breeding success, PERCEPTION celebrated an exceptional convergence of events in August of this year with the arrival of a very special tail-female descendant. As Mulawa celebrates fifty years of breeding Arabian horses, PERCEPTION welcomed her great-granddaughter, the seventh successive generation of the LM MAGICS GIFT Family in Australia, with the arrival of MARLIA RA (by World Champion Marajj) at Re-Ality Arabians. These six generations of females – PERCEPTION - MULAWA ANASTAZIA – ANADREAM MI (by Magnum Forty Four) – ANTONIA MI (by Onitnelav) – AIRLIA FX (by Allegiance MI) – MARLIA RA – all alive at once save MULAWA ANASTAZIA (who succumbed to a brown snake more than a decade ago) is a remarkable occurrence that exemplifies the best of the Arabian breed in so many lives.
We at Mulawa feel truly blessed to have shared so many wonderful years with PERCEPTION. Her strength and presence will be greatly missed by everyone. We take great joy in knowing that the best of her lives on for the enduring benefit of the breed, capably stewarded by the international Mulawa Community with innovation, possibility and pride.
